At last there is an intraocular lens implant (IOL) that allows cataract patients to actually focus their vision similar to the way they did in their early forties.
Previously IOL’s had a “fixed” focus and objects were clear only at their fixed distance. Frequently, glasses were needed to sharpen vision more recently, multifocal IOL’s allowed multiple zones of distances to be seen. However, there is some loss of contrast and halos may be a problem.
With the development of the “Crystalens” patients usually need no glasses to focus at all distances, but may need a weak pair of reading glasses for reading for long periods of time. Most however are happy to be free of glasses the majority of the time and to have renewed crisp vision that they had with glasses before they developed their cataracts.

You now have a choice in your vision.
